October 9, 2014 - "...he splashed along behind the others in a very muddy track...it was pouring with rain, and had been all day; his hood dripping into his eyes, his cloak was full of water" - reading The Hobbit this morning, while listening to the rain outside, was perfect!  

October 8, 2014 - We enjoyed the part about Bilbo's great-great-great-grand uncle Bullroarer, "who knocked the head off of king Golfinbul with a wooden club. It sailed a hundred yards through the air and went down a rabbit-hole, and in this way the battle was won and the game of Golf invented at the same moment."

We just started reading The Hobbit, by J. R.R. Tolkien.  We are very excited about the third movie coming out this December.  I thought it would be great to read this book together and compare the original book with the movie trilogy.

My goal was to share something each day from the book. Something we all enjoyed or an observation.

Cochran Omnia cum Deo Gloria Patri School (COGS)

Our journey in home education began in 2008 when we moved to Colorado to serve as missionaries.  It has been a unique journey for the entire family.  We now live in Kansas City, Missouri. Where are children, Delton (age 14) and Emerine (age 10) are educated at home.  When we looked at a name for our family we came up with COGS.  The inside of a clock contains small wheels with a series of edges that transfers motion by engaging the edges onto another wheel. We believe our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ is before all things, and by Him all things consist (Colossians 1:17).  Therefore, each subject we study is like a cog, the little wheel, which engages other subjects. Jesus Christ is at the center of all subjects.  Our prayer is that our children will grown in the grace and truth of their Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Also, they would love to learn about all which God has created on this earth.
